Circular Valorisation of Thermochemical By-Products
AshCycle is a European research-and-innovation project focused on the circular economy and the advanced valorisation of by-products from thermochemical waste treatment.
Our Role in the Project
Within AshCycle, Indeloop develops solutions for the valorisation of biochar — the solid by-product generated during the thermochemical conversion of sewage-treatment-plant sludge in our process.
The biochar is being investigated as a construction additive (replacement material in concrete, bricks, geopolymers) and as a phosphorus source for recovery of a critical raw material.
From Lab to the Real World
The solid by-product from our process was used as a partial replacement for aggregate in the production of concrete pavers. The pavers were installed at the access path to the village school in Mušaluk (Lika, Croatia).
