S2H2
Sludge-to-Hydrogen for a Circular Economy
Scaling the LOOPER from TRL 6 to TRL 8 — converting up to 25 tonnes of sewage sludge per day into ultra-pure (99.97 %) hydrogen for the automotive sector.
Sludge-to-Hydrogen for a Circular Economy
S2H2 is focused on the development of advanced technology for converting sludge from wastewater treatment plants into hydrogen — directly contributing to the circular economy and sustainable waste management.
Through this project, the existing LOOPER technology is advanced from TRL 6 to TRL 8, alongside a significant scale-up of system capacity — from the current 1 tonne to 25 tonnes of material processed per day.
The Hydrogen Breakthrough
The key technological leap is the production of high-purity hydrogen at 99.97% from cleaned syngas — at a specification suitable for automotive fuel-cell applications.
Closing the Loop
Process by-products will be additionally valorised through potential applications in construction materials or as pigments — maximising resource utilisation and minimising waste output.
