Solid Residues With a Second Life: From Process Output to Building Material
The construction-industry pathway for solids leaving thermochemical waste-to-resource systems.
Every thermochemical conversion process produces a solid residue. In legacy incineration, that solid is hazardous bottom ash. In the LOOPER process, it is a mineral-rich material with measurable construction value.
The AshCycle pathway
Under the Horizon Europe AshCycle programme, we have validated the integration of LOOPER residues into BravoBrick and geopolymer formulations — turning a disposal liability into a feedstock for low-carbon building products.
What the trials show
Compressive strength, dimensional stability, and leaching behaviour all sit within the bands required for non-structural building elements. Scaling work continues through 2026.
