Thermochemical waste conversion produces, in addition to syngas, a solid residue whose properties depend on the composition of the input material and process conditions. At Indeloop, this material is characterised to assess opportunities for its safe and technically viable further use.
Valorisation Through the AshCycle Project
Within the AshCycle project, funded through the Horizon Europe programme, the potential to convert solid residue from the LOOPER process into a secondary raw material has been investigated.
Testing includes material characterisation, the potential recovery of valuable components such as phosphorus, and its possible use in formulations for bricks, geopolymers, concrete and other construction products.
From Process Residue to Material Resource
The aim of the research is not only to reduce the amount of material requiring disposal, but also to determine whether part of the solid residue can be reintroduced into the system as a valuable resource.
Laboratory testing included the assessment of mechanical properties, material stability and leaching behaviour to evaluate its suitability for specific construction applications.
The project results provide a basis for the further development and scaling of solutions that could expand the material potential of LOOPER technology alongside energy and hydrogen production.
